A great story!
I really enjoyed this book and very highly recomend it, I would
give it more stars if I could.

Lisa Tawn Bergren is awesome!
Refuge is my all time favorite books from Lisa Tawn Bergren. I couldn't put it down. I've read this book too many times to count. If you love a good romantic story, then you'll love Refuge. I strongly suggest on buying it. You won't be disappointed.

Across "The Bridge" is worth the trip!
I just finished reading The Bridge. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was surprised to find myself liking the characters so much in such a short time. I especially loved how the author described Eden getting her visions and sculpting them. It really sparked the creative juices in me and made me wish I was an artist! It was more than just romance or entertainment for a few hours. I loved the message. I appreciate the author's gift to communicate to the heart on many levels. I learned this in her Northern Light Series also. They're all excellent.

Lisa's descriptions of Montana were awesome. I can certainly see why it holds such a dear place in her heart. I loved the fly fishing parts, especially teaching Nick. It endeared me to Eden even more and exposed her nurturing side. I could imagine Eden in her prayer spot or sitting on the dock with her feet in the water. It really made me want to spend my summers there!

I was also delighted to find Lisa's web site and get to know her better. Lisa is in my top 10 of about 30 favorite authors. I'm looking forward to reading her anointed and inspired writing for many years to come. I'm eager to read Christmas Every Morning.

Rosie and the Rustlers

a marvelous find
Roy Gerrard is a rare talent. The charming text, the masterful watercolor illustrations (as an advertising creative, I see a LOT of illustration. Few illustrators hold a candle to Roy) come together in a wonderful book. The rhyming text entertains my kids and I at storytime

Do not miss this book if you have kids, or even if you don't
With dashing flare and tuneful rhymes, Roy Gerrard brings us a colorful tale of the old west, where the good guys are the good guys and the villians just can't catch a break! We all loved the spirit of the old west, "Bonanza-style" and this is your chance to recapture it with and for your child. You will read it a hundred times if you read it once...I try for an accent that is early Walter Brennan. The art is second to none, the length just right for bedtime...in today's fast paced world, it is a pleasure to share this with your children! 5 STARS ONLY BECAUSE 6 ARE NOT AVAILABLE!

This was my favorite book as a child
It's a great story with lots of action and coyboys andhorses. My mother used to read it to me every night and I can recite it by heart. To me it's a classic!

Teeny Tiny Farm (Chunky Shape Books)

Please get this book back into print!
I would probably buy a half a dozen copies of this book every year to give as gifts to my friends who have new babies. This
book is so cute, babies just love the poetry, and the surprise ending. The drawings are beautiful.

Lovable book
Teeny Tiny Farm is a sweet little book with rhymes. It's size is perfect for toddler hands, and my kids never got tired of hearing about a day on this little farm. The illustrations are cute and remind me of Fischer Price plastic people. We carry this book in the car, to restaurants, and use it at bedtime. Kids will start imitating the rhymes after a few readings because they are catchy. I would recommend it highly.

Another rave review!
I thought I was the only nut who read this adorable book to my kids! Both my daughters love it, and I, too, replaced the torn, munched-on copy with a new one for our second daughter. The rhyming is EXCELLENT for even the littlest ones. We have also given it as a gift several times.

What Love Sees: A Biographical Novel (Thorndike Large Print Romance Series)

Precious Sight!
Sight is one of those gifts a person takes for granted. I know I do, but after reading this book I don't think I ever will again. Jean loses her sight at the age of 12 and has so many things to overcome. Luckily for her, her parents didn't coddle her and made Jean do everything for herself that was possible. As the years go by she feels something is missing and after meeting Forest Holly, a man who also lost his sight, she knows that she needs to be married to him. This story takes in all the years from 1930 on through Jean and Forest's married life and all the challenges they face through lean years and the hardships of raising four children with little help. There were some hilarious parts, and some sad too.... This is truly a book that will make a person thankful for their sight and let you know that whatever adversities you may have to face, they can be overcome. A book I will recommend to everyone.

INDEPENDENCE
I THOUGHT THIS BOOK WAS GREAT AND VERY HEARTFELT IT SHOWS THAT EVEN IF TWO PEOPLE WHO ARE VISUALLY IMPAIRED THEY CAN STAND ON THEIR OWN.I WAS AMAZED HOW THEY RAISED FIVE CHILDREN .I HAVE A SEIZURE CONDITION SO I KNOW HOW IT IS TO BE LIMITED AND I STILL LIVE WITH MY MOTHER SO I CAN RELATE WITH HOW JEAN FELT WHEN HER FATHER KEPT TREATING HER LIKE A CHILD AND NOT LETTING HER TAKE A WALK INTO TOWN WITH HER SEEING EYE DOG OR WHEN SHE AND GORDON WANTED TO GET MARRIED.

This book is about my grandmother and POP, it is wonderful.
If you are looking for a true love story and true dedication in a marriage, this book is for you. My grandparents overcame their blindness had four children, and conqured everything themselves. My grandparents have given my such motivation, that I can do anything I set my mind to, they are the most wonderful people alive, besides my parents. This book is truly a wonderful book about love, hard times and good times, how they beat all of the odds.

Back on the Farm

Terrific piece of work!
Latza's "Back on the Farm" is a terrific piece of work! Whether you grew up on a farm or just admire the lifestyle, this is a book you won't want to miss. Beautiful, thought provoking photos, combined with creative and informative captions and a fantastic foreword by Terry Woster, this book has it all.

Greg Latzka Takes South Dakota back to the farm.
I would like to thank Greg for taking me back to the farm. I grew up about 10 miles from Greg's farm. Having lived on the farm as a young child and then selling the farm as the prices dropped in the '80's, was not uncommon. Living in Mitchell was still not close enough to the country. I worked at my uncles Dairy farm whenever I got time. It did not matter if he paid me or not. I just enjoyed viewing God's Country. I am now living in Houston, TX and miss the smell of fresh cut alfalfa in the morning or a calf's first wobbly step. This book took me back for a moment in time. I want to thank Greg once again for the beautiful book. The pictures do justice to our beautiful state and people. You can put a man in TEXAS but you can't take the South Dakotan out of him.....

WOW! Mr. Latza's book took me 'Back to the Farm'.
This book not only rivals most of the Day in the Life books but could be compared to anything that you see in National Geographic. Mr. Latza has an eye and a heart for his state. Bravo Greg, when is the next book coming out.

The Calling: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Colorado (December, 1998)
Author: Dick Hyson
Average review score:

Authentically captures a bygone era. A must read!
Even though it is a fictional story, I suspect there is a lot of truth in "the way things were" in this novel. Hyson, having lived the life of a rancher/cowboy, allows much of his own experience to influence his writing. I believe this book to be an authentic depiction of ranch and community life in Northern New Mexico during a particular time period. "The Calling" has it all: romance, adventure, mystery, and binding human relationships. This story would make a great movie along the lines of "Cool Hand Luke" and "The Horse Whisperer."

A different western - very, very well written.
The books starts well and continues telling the every day life of a cowboy in New Mexico and the people he associates with. It is a history, a love story, a geography study of New Mexico. It is not a real fast read - it just stay interesting throughout.

Fantastic!!! Mystery, Romance and the Cowboy life.
I loved this book. Hyson really gives a tenderfoot like me the taste for the cowboy life. In it he also gave me a mystery, romance, and a number of really hard laughs! (RC really cracks me up!) I really enjoyed the book and recommend it. It is a really good read.

Carrot in My Pocket
Published in Hardcover by Moon Mountain Publishing (September, 2001)
Authors: Kitson Flynn and Denise Ortakales
Average review score:

Carrot in My Pocket
This is an excellent book for children! It's fun to read & has brilliant illustrations. Definately a 5 star book!

Winner of the WordWeaving Award of Excellence
A young farm boy interrupts his day to seek a missing carrot. In rhyme, he talks to almost two dozen different animals, wondering where his carrot has gone. From the barn to fields of straw, he'd kept the carrot in his pocket. Through work and play, he remembers having it. But when the work is done, the carrot's gone. Then he gets a surprise confession.

Denise Oratales' paper-sculpture techniques will astonish readers with its texture and realism, giving CARROT IN MY POCKET a remarkably unique appeal. These brilliantly colored and subtly painted collages are then photographed, thereby providing a beautiful background for the lively poetic meter by author Kitson Flynn. The result is a children's book that is at once entertaining and educational. Various animals will delight young readers learning what they look like. Add the counting game of mice (a new baby is added on each page) as well as the hidden donkey, and the result is an outstanding read! Very highly recommended.

Barnyard Fun
A glowing whimsical journey of a boy in search of his carrot you and your child will be sure to enjoy over and over. The playful poem is anchored by beautiful artwork that shares a sense of playfulness......take note of the growing family of mice with each turn of the page! A must have for your child's collection of stories!

Changes for Josefina: A Winter Story
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Valerie Tripp and Jean-Paul Tibbles
Average review score:

Exciting and entertaining
This is another one in the American Girls series about Josefina Montoya, a ten-year-old girl living in the New Mexico of 1824 (actually January of 1825). In this book, the Christmas season ends with a successful party. However, just as the new year begins with a high note, Josefina feels the world pulled out from under her when her aunt Dolores announces that she is leaving the rancho and returning to Santa Fe. They are happier with Tia Dolores living with them, and they know that their father is. And so, the sisters begin their scheming...

The final chapter of this wonderful book is a highly informative look at the changes New Mexico experienced as it changed over the years. I must also mention that Jean-Paul Tibbles' lovely illustrations are an excellent addition to the story.

This final book in the Josefina story is every bit as wonderful as the first one, and definitely maintains the American Girls' tradition of excellence. The story is exciting and entertaining, and I especially liked how the author wove Josefina's faith into it, making it appear the natural part of her life that it would have been. My daughter and I loved this book, and we both recommend it to you and your daughter.

a very good book form the American Girls Collection
Changes for Josefina is one of the better books in the American Girls Collection. In the book, Josefina and her sisters have party for their friends and neighbors. After the party, Tia Dolores announces that she wants to move back with her parents. When Josefina and her sisters find out the real reason that Tia Dolores wants to leave, they find a way to get her to stay.

"Good Book *****************"
About a girl named Josefina who lives in 1824. She is Mexican and lives on a ranch with her dad and sisters and aunt. Her mom died two years ago. Her aunt who she calls Tia Dolores is going to leave and Josefina wants her to stay. Will her daring plan work?

Alida's Song
Published in Hardcover by Delacorte Press (08 June, 1999)
Author: Gary Paulsen
Average review score:

Quiet Masterpiece
"Alida's Song" is written by Gary Paulsen. The book is about a boy whose parents were alcoholics and his grandmother was the only one who cared about him. After his grandmother took him under his wings, he learned a new meaning of life which helped him discover his potentials. The story's setting transforms from the harsh city life to a little happy farm. The author's realistic descriptions in the story paint a real life picture in the reader's mind. He describes the boy's surrounding environment very thoroghly to give the reader a good idea of how it affects the boy's social life and his survival methods. The characters are realisticly and fairly portrayed. The author shows the character's funny and emotional sides to help the reader get a better understanding of the characters. He doesn't use any offensive language; instead he uses vivid and clean words in his dialogue. The author also keeps the ending very hidden and gives almost no clues of how the book is really going to end, which makes the story more interesting. Along with the story the author gives some information about how life was in the early 1920's to give the reader a clear picture. I would recommend this book to other fellow readers because this story was very interesting and vividly written.

Alida's Song
Although I am not much of a reader, Alida's Song, a book by Gary Paulsen, really caught my eye. Now I will tell you three reasons why this is the book for you. The first reason why you should read this book is it shows how a grandmother will do anything to help her grandson.. When she finds out her daughter and son-in-law are getting drunk and leaving their son hungry with no money, she brings him to the farm she works on to help out he learns a lot about his grandmother. There is also the compassion that he finds after he meets the Sirs' of the house. For example, as they are riding through the fields to get water from the well, he noticed few logs with beautiful faces while he is looking he notices one he said, "That is my grandma" Last, love is shared with his grandma and him. Every year there is a party thrown for Alida, and she can choose any man to dance with for her special song. She chooses her grandson because he turned out to be a special young man. Truly, I hope this is a book that you will enjoy as much as I did.

Hank The Cow Dog Series
For readers of any age the Hank The Cow Dog series is one of the best. It will hold the attention of older struggling readers with lower abilities. Parents reading to their children will enjoy the books as much as the kids do. With wit and humor the adventures of Hank keep us turing the pages. I have not read every book in the series but I will.

Amazon should make a complete set of these available.
